The documents included range from the early seventeenth century to the 1830s, from the reflections of philosophers to popular pamphlets, from public debates in ratifying conventions to the private correspondence of the leading political actors of the day.

  Annals of Congress

The Annals of Congress, formally known as The Debates and Proceedings in the Congress of the United States, cover the 1st Congress through the first session of the 18th Congress, from 1789 to 1824. The Annals were not published contemporaneously, but were compiled between 1834 and 1856, using the best records available, primarily newspaper accounts. Speeches are paraphrased rather than presented verbatim, but the record of debate is nonetheless fuller than that available from the House and Senate Journals.

The Constitutional Sources Project was founded in 2005 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit with the singular goal of creating and maintaining the first, free, fully-indexed, comprehensive online library of constitutional sources.

Towards this goal, the project launched ConSource.org on Constitution Day, September 17, 2007 with five core founding collections containing roughly 1,000 documents. Washington's Papers, a collection of over 10,000, was added in time for President's Day February 2008. [ . . . ] No other project has searchable text transcripts, high-resolution original images, advanced searching, and scholarly certification standards for its documents. More, no other project cross-references each document to the Constitution.

Teaching the Modern Presidency on the Internet

by Russell D. Renka, Professor of Political Science (Southeast Missouri State University)

The modern American presidency lends itself exceptionally well to being taught online, but that's not to say every aspect of the office and its occupant is comparably amenable to website courses. This paper shows that there is wide variation in what is available, in quality control, and in usability.
