• Fulbright Lecture Series: Aspects of American Society: Culture and Politics (April–Juli 2006, mittwochs 11-13 Uhr, G40B-339). In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Amerikanischen Generalkonsulat Leipzig und der Fulbright-Kommission.

  This lecture series is designed to acquaint students with a variety of topics covering historical and contemporary aspects of life in the United States. Individual lectures will focus, among other things, on the political system, on the new media, on journalism, and on advertising. The speakers, all of them American academics, are highly qualified specialists sponsored by the Fulbright Commission.

  Gary Scharnhorst has been teaching American literature at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, since 1987. A Fulbright lecturer in 1978-79, 1985-86, 1993, and 2004, he is the author or editor of eighteen books. He co-edits the journal American Literary Realism and edits in alternating years the research annual American Literary Scholarship.

  Greg Gatenby: "American Literary Perceptions of Canada"
  Greg Gatenby is a native of Toronto. He received a B.A. in English from York University in 1972. From 1973-1975, he was an editor at McClelland & Stewart. Since then, he has been serving as the artistic director of the Harbourfront Reading Series and the International Festival of Authors. – This lecture is made possible by the generous support of the Canadian Embassy, Berlin.
